Description

I still remember, long time ago, when my cousin was talking about the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca that I had just heard from news: he was really enthusiastic to have attended some performances, because it was a great pleasure for the beauty of the show and athmospere. I have always recognized him a great taste in everything, that is why his reference made me curious to join the event. The next summer, with friends, we bought tickets and finally I could be there, under the stars, in the wondergul Palazzo Ducale courtyard, enjoying the elegance of a rare Opera, performed by young talents. After more than a decade the quality of performances remains very high and the audience is clearly increasing.

For all those reasons last year we started organising this travel package to let Opera lovers, as well as any culturally curious travellers, to attend this unique Festival. In five days you will also explore the region's attractions in depth, off the beaten track, and enjoy food local specialities and of course wine!

Taking part to this journey contains also a sustainability aspect: The local community, and me too, is proud to offer such an exceptional artistic program as result of intellectual efforts since almost a half century! Motivating people means to spread energy for society improvement: Italians are glad to talk about their culture before their cuisine.

I am Piero, I organize this travel and will be your tour leader by this special journey in my region: Puglia!

2020 scheduled performances:

"Gli amanti sposi" by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari - July 19, 24; August 1.
Opera giocosa in three acts, libretto by Giovacchino Forzano; performed 1925 at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, it is one of lesser-known opera by the Venetian composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876-1948).

"La rappresaglia" by Saverio Mercadante - July 14 (Prima), 26 and 29.
Opera buffa by Apulian composer Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870), reworked libretto by Cesare Sterbini and Felice Romani; performed 1829 in Cadiz is proposed during the Festival for the first time in recent epoch. It was written by Mercadante with clear references to Rossini's "Barbiere di Siviglia" and "Cenerentola" to let the Spanish audience know the Italian Opera.

"Leonora" by Ferdinando Paër - July 25, 28 and 31.
Semi-serious melodrama by Ferdinand Paër (1771-1839), linked to the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven. The opera was successful on European Opera Houses of the time (from Dresden to Paris from Florence to Palermo) thanks to a writing freshness that reporters, as well as critics, have always recognized.
