Greece Detailed Itinerary

First Day – Transfer from arrival place (ATH Athens' airport) to Athens Cypria Hotel: time for relaxing and first strolling through Athens centre; dinner in traditional Taverna in Plaka.

Second Day – Guided visit of Athens. The visit is starting with the Acropolis and its archaeological site; while discovering the architectural grandness of the sacred hill, almost as planned by Pericles at a time, the 5th Century B.C when Athens was the leading city in Ancient Greece and whose philosophical, political and cultural achievements still represent today the foundations for Western civilization. From the top of the Acropolis, we will also see the modern Athens and its huge urban surrounding. Quite impressive, if we think that this development took place in less of a century. Indeed, Athens is not only a heritage of Classical Greece: we will see the modern aspect of this Metropolis, which saw in the recent decades quick changes and has lived flourish and struggling times. We will see, how it developed as it is now. A passionate walk through the many, sometimes contradictory, aspects of Athens it will be! After we will have a few hours for relaxing, before having a special dinner with selected dishes accompanied by a selection of the best Greek wines. After the dinner, return to the Hotel.

Third Day – Athens and its port, Piraeus are complementary. And the port is also an ideal gate to discover insular Greece. Today a private transfer will bring you to the ferry to Aegina, a beautiful and near island, full of history and traditions. You might discover the old town with its Venetian notes, the Temple of Aphaea in the Island's North-East. And, also, walk through the ancient village of Palaiochora, the mediaeval capital of the island, now abandoned, but still visitable and which offers a 360° view of the Saronic Gulf from the Church of Saint George, placed on top of the village. Further Aegina is famous for its delicious pistachios, offered in many different ways in Aegina Town. In the afternoon the ferry will take you back to Piraeus, and from there to the hotel by private transfer for a some relax before having dinner in a traditional tavern. After the dinner, return to the Hotel.

Fourth Day – The journey continues towards Nafplion and the Peloponnese. On the way, accompanied by our guide, you will have the chance to discover the Archaeological Site of Elefsina, where the Eleusinian Mysteries were held, before having a short stopover to admire the Isthmus of Corinth. Your next destination is Mycenae, with its Cyclopic walls and the only known monumental sculpture of Bronze Age Greece, the Lion Gate. Last you will arrive at Nafplion. After the check-in, dinner in a traditional tavern with fish and other specialties.

Fifth Day – Today our guide will lead you through the beautiful historical centre of Nafplion, the first Greek Capital city after the Independence from the Ottoman Empire. The visit will also include the visit of the Palamidi Fortress, a strategical observation point built on the rock above the city, whose roots goes back since the domination of the Franks and, later, of the Venetians. After a light lunch in town, the afternoon is free; you might walk along the coastline on an idyllic pathway starting from the port until the beach of Karathona. Back in town dinner in a traditional restaurant and return to the hotel.

Sixth Day – The endless vineyards of Nemea are the heart of the oenological tradition of Greece. But the Nemea region is also the place where the myth tells that Hercules killed the lion and performed the first of his 12 labours: today we are heading there on an excursion between Hercules stories and winemaking tradition. You ´ll learn about the Nemean games at the archaeological site of Nemea and its stadium and then visit a local winery and a traditional vinegar production unit (or depending on the period a second winery) and taste unique varieties of wine, accompanied by Greek delicacies, meeting their producers and discuss with them the details of wine-making in Greece. After the return to Nafplion, dinner in traditional tavern with fish and other specialities and return to the hotel.

Seventh Day – Today your journey continues towards Patras where you will catch the ferry to Bari. A private transfer will bring you there, an important and historical commercial harbour, from where the Greek wines, olive oils, raisins and other dried fruits were exported all over the world. Also, Patras is very famous for its Dionysian carnival parade. You will have some free time for a walk in the historical centre, before boarding into the ferry and continuing the journey towards a region that for some aspects reminds of the Peloponnese, but on the Italian shore of the Ionian Sea, towards Bari, Puglia.

Before to return to hotel you will stroll around the beautiful old centre of Locorotondo and have a piece of pizza. Return to hotel.
