Talking with friends, they often ask me: "Why are tourist not coming out of the season? Puglia is wonderful in winter!". I agree with them and with a New York Times article (March 2013): "Winter Is Prime in Puglia - [...] Food is tastier, the shops are emptier and the prices are lower. And the lack of attachment to the beach encourages exploration of the area's inland charms. It is like discovering an entirely new Italy — or at least an Italy that is only populated by Italians."
I belong to a group of persons, who swim all over the year: being in touch with the nature and the seaside towns, when the day light is shorter and the places quieter, is something to enjoy only in this season. If you like to drink stronger wines as Primitivo Wine, you do not have to fight against the heat. The seasonal food are more genuine and some vegetable of this period are bitter. Talented local Artisans and Craftspeople are more relaxed and proud to tell their stories. In general people tends to start real conversation, without rush. It is also a good time to reflect about the environment and responsible tourism that can maybe help to solve the plastic pollution!
My name is Piero and I am the organizer and tour leader of this special journey in my region: Puglia, Italy!

During this trip you will experience a piece of genuine Italy, meeting and learning from locals. It will also support our efforts, as an on-site operator, in our quest to eradicate the use of single-use-plastic.

Moreover you will enjoy unique Wine Tasting in small Wineries and return home with an Italian tailor-made shirt!

2020 Dates of start of this travel:
January 4, 11, 18, 25; February 1, 22, 29; March 7, 14, 21, 28; April 4, 18, 25; November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12

Places: Conversano, Egnazia, Polignano a Mare, Locorotondo, Alberobello, Cisternino, Ostuni, Monopoli – Puglia, Italy.

First Day â€“ We will meet at your arrival place (airport or station of Bari or Brindisi) and drive to the Atelier of shirt-maker Gammariello to choose your favourite shirt and custom it to your wish: you will receive your tailor made shirt at the end of your travel. Afterwards we will arrive to your accommodation, Corte Altavilla, a welcoming Hotel in the middle of Conversano old town. Piero, your tour leader, will explain the itinerary and collect your preferences. All together you will have a dinner to start your journey with delicious Apulian food and wine!

Second Day – Guided visit of Museum and Archaeological Park of Egnazia: marvellous painted pottery and marble sculptures can explain the evolution of ancient arts and society through the centuries; the grape icon is often represented, since the wine was the symposium drink; outside, in the ruins of the archaeological area, you will recognize some typical elements of a Roman city: the Forum, the Thermal Baths and the Via Trajana. After Egnazia we will go to a seafood restaurant to join a typical Sunday lunch in the middle of Polignano a Mare; its old centre is perched atop a twenty meters high limestone cliff above crystal clear water, from here you will enjoy one of the most enchanting view of the region; then you will descent to Lama Monachile for an impression about the erosion made by temporary water flows; this place is also known as the beach of Polignano: a pleasure to swim there... Return to Hotel.

Third Day – We will start the day at Gianni's family wine cellar: I Pastini; the visit of their organic vineyard, the old stone house and the modern production belongs to your fascinating wine experience that will introduce you to their professional wine tasting! The "round" town of Locorotondo, to see from their field, will be your next destination; after a light lunch at the so called "sea front", we will stroll through the nice alleyways and visit the main church on top. From here we will travel into the UNESCO site of Alberobello, to visit the iconic Trulli, unique cone-roofed houses, a symbol for Puglia. Return to Hotel.

Fourth Day â€“ Today is time to learn more about the historical place where you are based: Conversano; with a local guide we will have a guided walk through its marvellous alleyways, where the coexistence of Lords, Abbesses and Bishops was never easy and see what remains of an important heritage: the Castle, Monastery and Cathedral; we will also listen to facts and tales related to those places. For lunch you will taste fresh local dishes in a bistro leaded by young owners. Afternoon and evening will be free for relaxation, walk, shopping or a wellness parcour in the hotel's spa; with your tour leader, Piero, you will decide what better suites to your wishes.

Fifth Day – Cisternino is a small and pretty town, with something different than the other visited towns until now; after a wander here, you will enjoy a very special wine producer: Semeraro Vini or better Pierfranco's family cellar; you will enjoy an outstanding wine experience through a pleasant tasting of six wines accompanied by local delicious food; his explanation of their story and philosophy will give you another perspective of the social function of so called "God's nectar"! Afterwards we will move to Ostuni and have a stroll in "the White town": its cobbled white streets overlook the sea borders between land and sky; on top of the old centre Orsola will offer you excellent local ham and cheese, the "affettato misto" and delicious salads on her terrace above thousand of ancient olive trees. Return to the Hotel.

Sixth Day –As seen in Egnazia, Terracotta pottery is a really ancient art, nowadays practised by few artisans; Tonino is indeed one of the last; he gains raw material from surrounding land and realize marvellous objects by an astonishing ability: visiting his workshop is an unusual event! Driving some miles away, we will go to Alberto's Taralli and Pasta production; his deep consciousness about quality food makes his talks very interesting: Of course you will also try to produce a couple of Taralli! Monopoli, one of the most beautiful sea town in Italy, will be also the place of our seafood lunch in a magnificent young restaurant: Il Guazzetto. After a walk in the old fortified centre we will return to the hotel and receive your tailor made shirt by Camiceria Gammariello!

Seventh Day – Depending from your departure place, we will have a walk in Bari or Brindisi, before to say goodbye to Piero and his Puglia.
